NCCR Concludes Lectures on Disability at Al-Zahra School

The National Center for Community Rehabilitation concluded lectures about disability targeted 43students of the secondary level at Al-Zahra School in Gaza. These activities come under the plan proposed by the Awareness and Guidance Program in the Center to the Ministry of Education and which targets school students in the Prep. and secondary levels by providing awareness and guidance about disability.

The lectures, held for 2 days in the amount of 2 hours a day, handled defining disability, and the attendants' impression about it. Also, Mr. Hany Abu Zaid, rehabilitation consultant of the NCCR, stated that types of disability according to the Palestinian law of the disabled for the year 1999 are mental, physical, auditory, visual, intellectual disability, educational difficulties, and retardation.

Additionally, Abu Zaid discussed causes behind disability like congenital and inherent causes, and accidents like fire shots and shelling or traffic accidents, pointing that one of the major causes is early and relative marriage. He also highlighted that there are other causes of disability that might occur during pregnancy like falling or having medical drugs and entering radiography rooms, and he confirmed the significance of natural sucking to immune the baby from diseases that might cause disability.

The lectures also tackled defining collective education and its importance and objectives, which range between general and specific objectives like improving trainers and adapting schools, and improving educational ways, means, and programs.
