The National
Center for Community Rehabilitation concluded lectures about
disability targeted 43students of the secondary level at
Al-Zahra School in Gaza. These activities come under the
plan proposed by the Awareness and Guidance Program in the
Center to the Ministry of Education and which targets school
students in the Prep. and secondary levels by providing
awareness and guidance about disability.
The lectures, held for 2 days
in the amount of 2 hours a day, handled defining disability,
and the attendants' impression about it. Also, Mr. Hany Abu
Zaid, rehabilitation consultant of the NCCR, stated that
types of disability according to the Palestinian law of the
disabled for the year 1999 are mental, physical, auditory,
visual, intellectual disability, educational difficulties,
and retardation.
Additionally, Abu Zaid
discussed causes behind disability like congenital and
inherent causes, and accidents like fire shots and shelling
or traffic accidents, pointing that one of the major causes
is early and relative marriage. He also highlighted that
there are other causes of disability that might occur during
pregnancy like falling or having medical drugs and entering
radiography rooms, and he confirmed the significance of
natural sucking to immune the baby from diseases that might
cause disability.
The lectures also tackled
defining collective education and its importance and
objectives, which range between general and specific
objectives like improving trainers and adapting schools, and
improving educational ways, means, and programs.
