The National center for Community Rehabilitation held a
lecture about backaches, targeting 15 women of the
Khanyounis governorate at the center's branch in Khanyounis
The lecture came under the framework of community awareness
program that targets all segment of the society,
particularly women. The program is basically concerned with
the most marginalized arrears of poor awareness in Gaza
governorates.
The lecture handled how backaches start, causes of backache
and its types, and ways of prevention.
Mrs.
E'atimad Abu Shmais , a physiotherapist , pointed out that
the most recent statistics manifested that more than 80% of
people all over the world undergo severe pains at the lower
back during their lives, and eight million people are
attacked by lower backaches a year. She also presented a
laconic background about anatomy of the back, using a sample
to explain the bends of spine and to spot on the most
vulnerable parts to backaches.
Mrs.
Abu Shmais pointed out that women are the most vulnerable to
backaches due to the relation between the reproductive
system and the lower back, and women are the most vulnerable
to bending owing to their housing works, additionally to
lifting the children for long times. Another reason to be
raised , pregnancy plays a basic role in backaches for its
influence on the spine and its ligaments.
Afterwards,
the lecture raised the ways of prevention that mainly depend
on our awareness about the nature of our bodies and the
mechanisms by which we utilize our bodies for everyday
activities.
Mrs.
E'atimad displayed some sound attitudes of setting and
standing, additionally to how to work at home in a
preventive approach.
At the end
of the lecture, some pictures of exercises recommended to
prevent backaches wherein some women performed such
exercises practically. Importantly, the lecturer advised the
women to walk twice a week in minimum in an effect to
activate the blood circulation and to strengthen the back's
muscles.
The solution
for backaches mainly depends on the person his/her awareness
about this problem .Mrs. Abu Shmais added.
