The National Center for Community
Rehabilitation held a workshop targeted 52 mothers of the
children afflicted with Cerebral Palsy in the headquarter of
"Friends Association" in Khanyounis Governorate.
Dr. Wael Abu Rezeg, coordinator of the
home care at the Center, initiated the meeting by welcoming
the mothers, and expressing appreciation for their coming
for the interest of their sons. Then he talked about the
establishment, objectives and briefly about the activities
and programs of the NCCR, and its role in reaching the
disabled in the marginalized areas in all Gaza Governorates.
The workshop handled the types of
Cerebral Palsy. Mr. Ramzi Khalifa, physiotherapist in
Khanyounis home care for the physically disabled program,
talked extensively about the main reasons behind children's
infection with Cerebral Palsy like the lack of oxygen during
childbirth which is the most important reason. Additionally,
he mentioned the main signs by which mothers can detect
their children's infection with Cerebral Palsy in an early
stage.
Then Khalifa moved to talk about the
importance and benefits of physiotherapy, and he showed the
mothers some exercises of physiotherapy they should perform
on their infected sons many times daily to prevent any
implications or spasm which might require a surgical
therapy.
Khalifa insisted on the role of the
families, especially mothers, in taking care of the disabled
children, adding that family has a vital role in the
execution, implementation and success of any rehabilitative
program, and its role completes the role of the home care
program of the NCCR.
Concluding the workshop, the discussion
was open for mothers to raise questions or comments. It is
worthy to be mentioned that this workshop comes under the
Community Awareness and Guidance program which targets all
segments of society, especially women, as the program
focuses it's awareness works on the marginalized and less
aware areas in Gaza Governorates.
